The Lamb Ale is celebrated over the Whitsun weekend and dates back to at least the seventeenth century. On Whit Sunday, Kirtlington and visiting morris sides process from the church, around the village. Until the 1850s a live lamb was carried in the procession. When the lamb was released the young women of the village raced to catch it. The winner became Queen of the Ale, while the lamb was made into pies.
